She has been called “a mover and a shaker” and “a cornerstone of the Australian Jazz scene”. She is “WA’s First Lady of Jazz” and “the earth mother of Perth’s chanteuses”, not to mention “a complete stylist with brilliant scat technique” and “one of the finest jazz vocalists this country has produced”. Her name is Helen Matthews and today, vocalists Ali Bodycoat and Libby Hammer, along with longtime contemporaries Kim Anning, Mike Nelson, Karl Florisson, Garry Howard and special guest Sue Bluck, come together to perform the music for which Helen is well-known, and to celebrate and acknowledge her exceptional achievements.
